Responsibilities

  • Reported directly to the president and served on College management team

  • Served as chief information and development officer

  • Directed, managed and coordinated College advertising, alumni affairs, community relations, Foundation Board activities, fundraising, grants, legislative affairs, marketing, public relations, publications, scholarships, special events and Web site

  • Managed five full-time employees and one part-time employee

Major Accomplishments (under my leadership):

  • Raised more than $1 million in private and grant funds in 2002; this increase in fundraising compares to $642,887 raised in 2001 and $467,305 raised in 2000

  • Coordinated the College’s participation in Virginia’s 2002 General Obligation Bond Referendum, which passed with more than 72 percent of the vote

  • Wrote the College’s first-ever crisis communications plan (before Sept. 11, 2001), long-range public relations plan and development plan

  • Redesigned the College’s Web site

  • Generated and placed record number of print and broadcast stories

  • Conceptualized new strategy for class schedules, resulting in a savings of more than $100,000
